Site Menus
Your website’s menus, such as the navigation bar across the top of every page or a list of quick links in the footer, are managed in Funny Little Shows. You can add, rename, reorder and remove links yourself, without needing a developer.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”When your website is first set up as part of your Funny Little Shows onboarding, we build your website’s templates. The templates decide the design: where each menu appears on the page and how it looks. The links inside each menu come from Website > Menus, so you can change them at any time.
Each menu has a Menu Name (Slug), such as MainNav or FooterLinks. This is how your website’s templates find the right menu, so it needs to stay exactly as it was set up.
Change the links in a menu
Section titled “Change the links in a menu”- Go to Website > Menus.
- Click the menu you want to change, e.g. Main Navigation.
- In the Menu Items section, you can:
- Add a link: click Add Item, enter the Text and URL, and click Save.
- Change a link: edit the item, update it, and click Save.
- Remove a link: delete the item. To hide it for now and bring it back later, turn off Active instead.
- Reorder links: drag the handle next to an item up or down. Dragging works on a computer but not on a phone. On a phone, change the item’s Sort Order instead.
- Publish your website. See Publishing menu changes below.
Menu item settings
Section titled “Menu item settings”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Text | The words shown on your website, e.g. Tickets or About Us. |
| URL | Where the link goes. Use a page on your website, e.g. /about-us, or a full web address for another site, e.g. https://www.instagram.com/yourshow. Leave it empty for a heading that only opens a sub-menu. |
| Parent Item | Leave as None (Top Level) for a main link, or choose another item to make this a sub-item of it. |
| Sort Order | The item’s position. Lower numbers come first. Dragging items sets this for you. |
| Active | Turn off to hide the item from your website without deleting it. |
| Link Target | Default (same tab), or New Tab (_blank) to open the link in a new browser tab. New Tab is handy for links to other websites. |
CSS Class and Accessibility Label (ARIA) are set up with your templates. You can usually leave them as they are.
Sub-menus
Section titled “Sub-menus”Menus can have two levels: top-level links, and sub-items underneath them. To make a sub-item, either:
- choose a Parent Item when adding or editing the item, or
- drag the item onto a top-level item.
Whether sub-items show as a drop-down, an indented list or not at all depends on how your templates were designed. If you’d like to change how your menus look, contact us.
Publishing menu changes
Section titled “Publishing menu changes”Menus appear on every page of your website. When you change a menu, the next publish updates all of your pages, so you don’t need to do anything special:
- Go to Publishing and click Publish.
- Choose Quick or Full, then Now, or schedule a time.
A menu change shows up in the list of changes waiting to be published as Site Navigation Menus. Publishing it updates your home page, custom pages, artist pages and, if you use them, your festival pages. It can take a little longer than a publish with only a small change, because every page is updated. For more on publish types, see Publishing.
Hide a whole menu
Section titled “Hide a whole menu”To take a whole menu off your website, open it, turn off Active, and click Save Menu Details. Then publish as described above. Turn Active back on to restore it.
