Funny Little Shows vs TryBooking

Fees, features and payouts compared for comedy promoters. Prices checked 9 October 2026.

The short answer

TryBooking is an Australian general-purpose ticketing platform with low fees and no monthly costs. Funny Little Shows is built for comedy: it runs your website, artists, shows, ticketing, comps and door scanning in one place.

  • Choose TryBooking if the lowest per-ticket cost is what matters most, you need seat maps or card payments at the door, or you run free and community events.
  • Choose Funny Little Shows if you run regular comedy nights, tours or a festival and want your website, program, comps and ticketing in one system, and want to be paid as tickets sell.

Fees

TryBooking's fees are lower than ours. Both platforms take 2.5% of the ticket price from the organiser, but TryBooking's per-ticket fee for the punter is $0.50 against our $1. TryBooking also has no monthly website hosting fee ... since they don't provide you a website.

Prices checked 9 October 2026 from Funny Little Shows pricing and TryBooking pricing (AU). All amounts in AUD, rounded to the cent. TryBooking lets you choose who pays some or all of its fees; with Funny Little Shows the punter always pays the $1 and the 2.5% comes from your ticket price. Fees can change, so check the current published pricing before you decide.

TryBooking charges $0.15 rather than $0.50 for tickets of $5 or less. If you connect your own Stripe account, TryBooking charges 1% + $0.50 per ticket and Stripe's fees apply on top. Our hosted website is optional, at $35 a month; you can use our ticketing on its own with your existing website.

When TryBooking is the better choice

  • Lowest cost. TryBooking costs 50c a ticket less than us, with no monthly fee.
  • Free events. TryBooking is free for free events. We only run free events for existing customers.
  • Seating. TryBooking includes a seating chart builder. We don't have allocated seating yet.
  • Taking cards at the door. TryBooking's app sells tickets at the door. Ours records door sales, but you take the payment separately.
  • A one-off event. If you don't need a website or a program of shows, a booking page is all you need.

When Funny Little Shows is the better choice

  • You run comedy regularly. Artists, shows and sessions are set up once and reused. Ticket pricing templates and default comps per room stop you re-keying the same details every week.
  • You want your own website. Your gig listings, artist pages and ticketing share the same data. Shows come off your website automatically once they're over.
  • Comps are a headache. Allocate comps to artists, producers and venues, issue them when confirmed, give the venue box office a portal to action them, and release unused comps back to sale.
  • Some venues sell their own tickets. Link a show to the venue's ticketing and sell the rest yourself, all from the same program.
  • Cash flow. Ticket money goes into your own Stripe account as it sells. You don't have to wait until after the show or ask for an early release.
  • Marketing in the same place. Customers who opt in at checkout join your mailing list, and you can email them your next shows with buy buttons and artist cards pulled straight from your program.
